Hold Hands

Boy and girl

Sweet young things

Around their late teens

Both walking in front of me

Lost in their world of cute cupids, beating hearts and chocolate cream cakes with caramel toppings

They walk as if walking on air,

Hand in hand

Hip to hip

Shoulder to shoulder

Eye to eye

Nose to nose

Bad breath to bad breath

But do they mind?

Of course not.

They are in luv

I watched this scene with amusement one night, while going home from one prayer meeting.

At my side was another couple walking home.

Friends of  mine

Not so young

With three kids. (The eldest is twenty – three years old)

Grandparents in the making, really

In fact, the guy is balding. There’s nothing on top except a few overstaying weeds. Airplanes can land in and out without a problem. He can sing Shine, Jesus, Shine with superb visual effects. He compensates by his busy eyebrows, combing them upwards as far as possible.

The woman ,on the other hand, is gifted, endowed and abundant. Through her, the vastness of the Kingdom is displayed. She has cellulite deposits with interest compounded daily. Indeed, she receives all that life has to offer her. To her embarrassment, people will always ask her, ” When are you giving birth?”

But the fiftyish couple does something that blows my mind.

They walk hand in hand as well.

As their holding hand is different from the way young lovebirds in front of me hold hands.

This time, I know it isn’t just cutey – sweety symbol. It’s proven. Full. Real. Unquestionable. Pregnant! (With meaning!) Backed up by twenty – five years of cooking meals, washing dishes, doing the laundry, and raising bratty kids.

Stop reading. And hold the hand of your spouse. Your mom. Your dad. Your friend. And prove it for the next twenty – five years.

And beyond.

This story is an excerpt from Bo Sanchez’ book that inspired me. It made me decide to hold the hands of special people in my life, not expecting in return, and wait for love to grow in their hearts.

Strong relationships do not come instantly, we make it happen.

Instincts

Flying into the storm is a dangerous experience. The temptation is to fly by your instincts, or, as aviators say, “by the seat of your pants.” But as any pilot will tell you, that’s a prescription for disaster. If you rely on your feelings and instincts, you become disoriented, thinking the plane is going up when it’s actually going down. Thankfully, the instrument panel is set to magnetic north and can be trusted every time.  Letting your instruments guide you, even when it feels like they’re wrong, helps ensure safety in the storm.

We all face storms that threaten to confuse and disorient us. It may be a call from the doctor’s office, a friend who has betrayed you, or a shattered dream. Those are the times to be especially careful. When you are blinded by life’s disappointments, don’t trust your instincts.  Flying by the seat of your pants in the storm of life can lead to despair, confusion, and vengeful responses that make matters worse. God wants to guide you, and His Word is packed with wisdom and insights for living. His “Word is a lampt to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). Where He leads is always right!

Reflection:

Just recently I faced a very tough situation at my work place. I felt pressured, confused, restless and worried. Standing firm on what is the truth and right gave me peace and assurance that not matter what happens God will protect me from people who wants to harm me. It’s good in knowing that my friends and family members showed their care by offering prays for me. Yes, prayer and trusting God make it easier to deal the daily life.
